While going through some older sources as I complete my book manuscript, I came across this video of a 2013 documentary. It’s an interesting look at a group of jihadis in the northern Tunisian town of Bizerte. While they claim to be called Ansar al-Sunnah, based on the details in it, it’s clear its a front for Ansar al-Sharia in Tunisia. Especially considering the fact that the head of this branch had previously fought in Afghanistan and Iraq, and when the government began cracking down on AST in May 2013, the head of this group allegedly fled to join AQIM in Mali. It’s an interesting portrait of how life was like in different areas of the country in late 2012 and 2013 since the types of activities shown in the documentary were being paralleled in many other cities and villages throughout Tunisia as well.
