In light of reports that the mastermind of last week’s twin suicide attacks in Tunis was killed in Hay al-Intilaka last night as well as the fact that security services found weapons related to the attacks at al-Ghufran Mosque in Hay al-Intilaka. This is because this mosque in particular was an Ansar al-Sharia in Tunisia-controlled mosque when the group was active from 2011-2014. Therefore, it is worthwhile exploring what Ansar al-Sharia in Tunisia did there to illustrate the network they had and how it is possible there are still those within this neighborhood that were exposed to AST and still sympathize with the jihadi cause. It is also noteworthy that the person who helped plan the Bardo and Sousse attacks from Libya, Shams al-Din Bin ‘Abd al-Rahman Bin al-Sharif al-Sandi, is originally from Hay al-Intilaka.
